AboutUs

  • Oblong Pictures is an imaginary film company which specialises in making short stop-motion films using the popular children's toy, LEGO®.

There's also the occasional non-LEGO® film but we don't like to encourage that sort of thing.

And we’re back

May 24th, 2007 by oblong pictures

I think the site is mostly done now. There’s a few things to fix and I need to add youtube links to the film pages but I think everything else is in place. If you spot any problems, you can now leave one of those snazzy internet comment things right here and I’ll try to fix it.

I’ve moved everything onto a WordPress blog, which necessitates a change in the folder structure. If you ended up here after following a link from another site, use the search box up top there to find whatever it is you came for. I’ll be updating the ones I remember doing myself over the next few days but I know a few other people have linked here. Those ones are going to stay broken.

$$$$ pls thx

Finally, I found out today that Kristin Hersh, who is responsible for the music in Pneuma, is having some problems out on the road. Car trouble and the general economics of small-scale touring mean that she and the band are losing money big time at the moment, but they’re carrying on and honouring their remaining tour dates anyway. It’s a sad state of affairs for an artist that I’ve been a fan of for about twenty years, and I’m writing this in the hope that a few kind souls out there will help out.

See, you can download a whole free EP and a handful of album tracks from her website. That’s pretty good value right there. On that page, up near the top, is a little red circle that says “tip jar”. If you liked Pneuma and you have a paypal account and a bit of cash to spare, I’d appreciate it if you dropped a dollar or two their way. They seem like nice people and I’d be sad to see them forced to give up touring over something like this.

Pneuma

As long as I’m updating things, why not put a new film up, eh?

This is a video for a short snippet of a 50 Foot Wave song, intended as an entry in a youtube video contest, but submitted about two months too late.

Watch Pneuma on Youtube!

Read all about it.

Back from the dead

May 14th, 2007 by oblong pictures

Well, here we are. Long time no… anything.

There have been a few developments in the year and a half since I last updated this site. The main one is that I’ve put most of my films up on youtube. I know some people had trouble working out what codecs needed installing where with the downloadable files, so this should make things easier.

I’ll continue to upload higher quality versions of my films here but youtube links will be taking the place of the lower res versions from now on.

I’ve divided things up into two sections:

We are a dotcom

May 5th, 2005 by oblong pictures

Not content with carrying out a sweeping redesign in the space of ten days, the crack team of technicians at Oblong Pictures have been working round the clock to set the site up as oblongpictures.com, making it far more universal and fantastic than it was before. The .co.uk address should still work as well, for anyone who wants to keep things English.

Now where’s all this venture capital I’ve been reading about?

So here it is - the exciting new design. It’s my first attempt at all this xhtml/css stuff, so here’s a picture of what this page should look like. I’ve checked it on a handful of browsers but if it looks significantly different on your browser, do let me know.

The redesign isn’t quite as redesigned as I thought it might be, but it’s not bad considering I’ve had to teach myself about 10 years’ worth of new web technology in 10 days. If anyone wants to explain a standards-compliant way of including inline images, I’m all ears.

Anyone visiting the site for the first time as a result of the CSS Reboot project is more than welcome to come in and have a good poke around. There’s films and everything.

Finally, true to my word as always, I’ve added a page for The Brick Gulch Chronicles, the film I made back in November and didn’t bother telling people about. You’ll probably get more out of it if you’ve seen the popular web series Red vs Blue. You’ll certainly have a better idea of how little of my own original work is involved in it.

Ever wonder why we’re here?

The Brick Gulch Chronicles: Screenshot

Shame. Shame on me. This film was actually finished six months ago but, for one reason and another, I never got around to updating the site. So without further ado, here’s the old new old film: The Brick Gulch Chronicles.

Any similarity to a well-known popular web series is entirely intentional.
