AboutUs

  • Oblong Pictures is an imaginary film company which specialises in making short stop-motion films using the popular children's toy, LEGO®.

There's also the occasional non-LEGO® film but we don't like to encourage that sort of thing.

Tough Questions

I originally made this film for the Nokia Shorts competition. The rules were: 3 seconds of opening titles, 15 seconds of film, and 5 seconds of closing credits. It’s a very short film.

Having gone to the effort of making the film, I then decided against entering. There were a couple of reasons but the main one was that the terms and conditions were pretty strict and included things like indemnifying Nokia against any legal action arising out of the public broadcast of the film. Since LEGO can be a little evasive about exactly what you can and can’t do in terms of public display of their product, I didn’t fancy taking sole responsibility for anything that might happen.

The other reason was that the script I wrote came in at over thirty seconds when I put the audio track together and I had to cut a lot of stuff out. I think the film suffered a bit as a result - a few people have said it’s hard to tell what’s going on.

So there you go. I’m not particularly happy with the way it turned out but there’s a few things I like about it. I might redo it at
its original length at some point. In the meantime…

I didn’t have much time to make this one so it’s pictures only, I’m afraid.
