Out of Time

This is my very first full-length animated short. The idea for the story came to me not long after I discovered that my parents had kept all my old LEGO from when I was a kid. It was like opening a time capsule - classic space figures, a couple of knights, even the scary old-style round-headed people.

This got me to thinking about what it was like to grow up in the '80s and what our expectations were of the brave new world we'd find when the new millennium dawned in what seemed at the time like the far future. Needless to say, it wasn't anything like what I'd expected. I'm still disappointed that we don't have hover cars yet. They had them on Logan's Run.

I started planning this one a few weeks before the BricksWest 2003 animation competition was announced. The competition deadline gave me a nice fixed date to work towards. I never expected to win and, as it turned out, I didn't. Almost twelve months later, I entered it in the NWBrickCon animation competition and it won. So there you go - proof positive that the general public just weren't ready for it.

The main film is available in RealMedia or compressed avi format for a faster download. The trailer is in compressed avi format only. You'll need DivX 5.0.5 to view avi files.

Note: The trailer is really just a handful of animation tests strung together and chopped up a bit. It bears very little resemblance to the film itself.

Special Features

I've moved these to their own page so as to remove the temptation to read them all while you're downloading the film. I know what you lot are like.
